Many successful experiences have been achieved in the application of flexible anode cathodic protection in the United States, such as the protection of old pipelines, large tanks, special environmental areas and anti-interference areas.
Tgpl first used 91.5m long flexible anode to protect three parallel areas where the performance of anti-corrosion coating could not meet the requirements. The method was to bury flexible anode cables between two pipelines in the area (as shown in Figure 3). The test results of tgpl company are as follows: the pipeline ground protection potential of all pipelines measured every 6.1 m is 10.87 11.24 V, which meets the protection criterion of protection potential below 10.85 V; meanwhile, the polarization potential of each pipeline is 445-769 MV, which meets the standard of polarization potential above 100 mV. Tgpl company installed flexible anode cathodic protection on 241.4km old pipeline, which not only achieved satisfactory protection effect, but also saved the overhaul cost of nearly 20 million US dollars.
The reliability and economy of the flexible anode cathodic protection make it widely used in the national pipeline network and large tanks in the United States. For example, there are many pipelines in Texas, North Carolina, Atlanta and so on. The current protection effect is very good.
